When we run into a word we don’t know, we look it up in a dictionary. We can learn the meanings of most words by checking a Japanese-language dictionary.
There are words, however, that learners of the language cannot find in a dictionary. Here are some examples: bakari and wake ni wa ikanai. There are a number of dictionaries in which these expressions cannot be found. This dictionary is designed to help Japanese language learners find patterns that are not in Japanese language dictionaries.
The objective of this dictionary is to enable students of the language to learn the
meanings and usage of patterns that cannot be found in a general Japanese dictionary,
rather than to provide the basics of grammar. We have included sentence patterns
ranging from elementary to advanced levels, indicated their meanings, functions, and
usage in easy-to-understand examples, and included explanations.
The explanations are translated into English, Chinese, and Korean for the convenience of those studying Japanese.
